I primarily blog here on Dreamwidth, but after having trouble getting Dreamwidth to play nice with the clickable table of contents and footnotes in the very long Dear Yuletide Author letter I wrote for the 2021 Yuletide exchange, I decided it was finally time to come to Neocities, even if only so I'd have a place to toss up the occasional static HTML page without worrying about someone else's sanitizer stripping my id tags.
This site is hosted on Neocities. I use vim-closetag to make my HTML editing workflow ever-so-slightly less painful, and Python 3's built-in HTTP server (with python3 -m http.server 8000 to serve the home directory at localhost:8000) to preview the site before I push it. Maybe someday I'll switch to using an actual static site generator, but for now, I care a lot more about longevity and maintainability than about in-the-moment convenience and prettiness, and I haven't found a SSG that's sufficiently bare-bones for my tastes yet. (My main goal is to avoid, at all costs, ever ending up in the position where I go to update a site I haven't touched in a while and suddenly realize that I have to update two hundred different npm packages, or reinstall Go, or something like that.)
